The Importance of the Foundation/Box Spring
Bedding manufacturers recommend that you purchase a box spring/foundation that is specially designed to match your new mattress. A mattress and foundation are engineered to work together as a set and the foundation absorbs a significant amount of the wear and tear over the lifetime of your mattress set. Too, the foundation/box spring contributes to the bed's overall comfort and support. Putting a new mattress on an old foundation it wasn't designed to work with, or adding a board between the mattress and foundation will impede comfort and reduce the useful life of your new mattress. It may also affect the manufacturer's warranty.
At Wholesale Mattress Warehouse foundations - and mattresses - may be purchased independently of mattress sets. While our prices are always the lowest around you can get even greater savings by choosing a foundation that is an odd color, or, a floral print. The quality of the construction is identical, and, for many people the color of their foundation isn't important - it's typically covered by your bedding, anyway. Also, note that king foundations are virtually always sold as a 2-piece set - called a "split foundation". This is because an inflexible foundation (if it were one, solid piece) in a king size would be too large to get into your home. Quite often, folks buying queen sets need a split box. This is common in older homes and Cape Cod designs where there are tight stairwells, turns, etc. We sell split boxes both full and queen size, as well - click here for details.
